when do you start to feel better on paxil cr? when does dirreha go away? i have been on paxil cr for 9 days and i have my good and bad days. Know i am fighting nausea and direha in the morning. Also tingling in left arm and leg

mishagrrr replied: "I've taken paxil in the past and it takes at least 4 weeks to really work, I didn't notice any side effects when I took it, but try taking it with a little milk or something in your tummy, it can help sometimes."

JanRx replied: "It usually takes 2 to 3 weeks for that type of drug to work regularly. But, if you're that ill every day, and you're having those symptoms of tingling or numbness, you should call your doctor or pharmacist and ask about it promptly."

Gugie replied: "NOT SURE ABOUTTHE TINGLING - CALL YOUR DOCTOR AND MAKE SUR ETHAT'S OK...THE LOOSE STOOL SHOULD SUBSIDE IN A FEW WEEKS - DRINK LOTS OF COLD WATER - IT MIGHT HELP - AND EAT FIBER...I KNOWMOST PEOPLE EAT IT TO GO TO THE BATHROOM...BUT IT'LL BULK YOU UPO SO IT'S NOT DIARREAH...AND THE DEPRESSION SHOULD START TO LIFT AFTER 14-21 DAYS...IF YOU STILL FEEL NO BETTER AFTER 3 WEEKS GO BACK TO YOUR DOCTOR AND SEE IF HE CAN TRY ANOTHER MED...AGAIN THOUGH - YOU HAVE T O WAIT 2-3WEEKS TO SEE IF IT WORKS - I KNOW HOW PAINFUL DEPRESSION IS...HANG IN THERE - I PROMISE YOU'LL SEE BRIGHTER DAYS!!!"

vanhammer replied: "You need to talk to your Dr about these side effects. It usually takes about 2 weeks when you first start on an antidepressant to start feeling the effects and for some maybe a month. By then you should start to feel your depression lift some. This may not be the best antidepressant for you if the side effects are too bad. The Dr will have to work with you to get the right one and the proper dosage for you. Talk to your Dr ....you must be a part of your treatment if it is going to work for you."

What can I do about my decreased libido because of Paxil CR? I feel pretty good on Paxil CR. The only thing that bothers me is I have a very low libido. It really puts a huge negative impact on my relationship with my boyfriend. I Hate It. It's awful. I want my sexual drive back. What should I do? Oh, and I have talked to my psychiatrist, she switched me to Lexapro, which made me feel very unhappy regarding depression and anxiety, so now she suggested skip taking the pill the night before you have sex. I notice very little. What do i do?

Princess Jane replied: "Drink some alcohol. That always does the trick. Just do it a few hours before you have sex."

RIA replied: "i was on paxil for about 6 months and my sex drive went down the drain, I couldnt even get wet. So I got off the pill and just went to therapy, it helped me and my emotions and my sex life didnt suffer because of it! Pills don't fix everything, theres always going to be a side effect!"

daljack replied: "We're not doctors & you shouldn't take the advice of anybody here. Your health is too important. Go back to your doctor until they find a solution to your problem."

blackfangz replied: "If you are experiencing negative side effects from paxil, and I'd call decreased libido negative, it's a item you should discuss with your doctor. There are other medications that can be used and they may be kinder to your system."

Taco replied: "Welbutrin seems to help with depresion, might not work with the anxiety though. and it didn't have any bad sexual side effects for me. (actually I had the best orgasms of my life!) but once again this is something you would want to talk to your doctor about. also if you are a smoker it will help you quit smoking. good luck!"

tried it all replied: "I'm not a doctor and I don't suggest skipping a pill, I don't see how that would work anyway, the medication is in your blood stream. but Most antidepressants void your sex life totally, they say cymbalta has the least sexual side effects, duh, I haven't found one yet, If you run up on anything let me know Good Luck"

angel74 replied: "I would not take Paxil it is not good for anyone!!!!!!!!!!!"

adamsjrcn replied: "ask your doc about cyproheptadine. Might help"

How effective is Paxil cr for anxiety? and can it make you sleep better? feel happier? I was prescribed paxil Cr 12.5 mg for anxiety, how effective it can be on that? i also have insomnia problems could it help me on that? and make me happier also? im afraid of the side effects of it though.

tcheat0404 replied: "It takes awhile, but it does work. I've been taking it for 9 years. 12.5 is not that much, but since you are just starting it will help you fall asleep. That may wear off though, and it may only come back if you change the dosage. Overall, it does a good job of making you feel better, but don't JUST rely on it. It's important for you to also help along the process of becoming happier. And make sure you take the appropriate amount that was prescribed. Don't miss a dose or take more than your doctor says. Good luck!"

Red M replied: "I was prescribed Paxil some years ago. It isn't like an instant cure for your problem, it builds up in your system as you take it for a controlled smooth transition. For me (everybody is different) it didn't curb my anxiety, I ended up getting a prescription for Xanex. The Xanex was much quicker in solving my anxiety which would come and go but controlled my life to a degree, so when I felt myself starting to panic I would take a pill and find a comfortable place to let it work. I'm not so sure about the sleep problem, but I know that Paxil is supposed to be effective with dealing with depression as well as anxiety. I hope this is some sort of help for you, I would say take the Paxil and give it a chance, there is no magic cure for life's problems, just try to stay optimistic. Another thing too...there are breathing and meditating techniques you can learn which is just one more tool for trying to overcome your anxiety/depression."

Tigger replied: "A word of warning about paxil (an SSRI) and other similar drugs made by different drug companies: "...The Physicians' Desk Reference lists the following adverse reactions (side effects) to antidepressants among a host of other physical and neuropsychiatric effects: manic reaction (mania, e.g. kleptomania, pyromania, dipsomania), emotional lability (or instability), abnormal thinking, alcohol abuse, hallucinations, hostility, lack of emotion, paranoid reaction, amnesia, confusion, agitation, delirium, delusions, hysteria, psychosis, SLEEP DISORDERS, ABNORMAL DREAMS, and discontinuation (withdrawal) syndrome. Adverse reactions are especially likely when starting or discontinuing the drug, increasing or lowering the dose or when switching from one SSRI to another SSRI. Adverse reactions are often diagnosed as bipolar disorder when the symptoms could be entirely iatrogenic (treatment induced). Withdrawal, especially abrupt withdrawal, from any of these medications can also cause severe neuropsychiatric and physical symptoms. It is important to withdraw extremely slowly from these drugs, usually over a period of a year or more, under the supervision of a qualified and experienced specialist In addition to the adverse reactions listed in the Physicians' Desk Reference, the FDA published a Public Health Advisory on March 22, 2004 which states (in part): "Anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, INSOMNIA, irritability, hostility, impulsivity, akathisia (severe restlessness), hypomania, and mania have been reported in adult and pediatric patients being treated with antidepressants for major depressive disorder as well as for other indications, both psychiatric and nonpsychiatric..." Taken from page 4 of (author of the document is a forensic psychiatrist in Australia) I put the bits relating to sleep in upper case. It would be worth you and anyone else reading the whole document, for your own safety."

Can anyone say anything good about Paxil or Paxil CR? I would like some input on this drug , to see if anyone has gone on it and it has worked for them for panic disorder/depression? I keep hearing horror stories about it. Any good news????? Thanks

michaelBSN replied: "i was on paxil and it did not aid in the treatment of panic disorders or with depression. the only benefit it had was for ocd"

Master_of_my_own_domain replied: "It has a delicious candy coating."

Phoenix replied: "It didn't help me any, but it didn't hurt, either. When it comes to anti-depressants, individual experiences vary widely. The best thing you can do it just try it out. If it doesn't work, try something else. If that doesn't work, try a different one."

Andy replied: "Personally, I've never taken paxil or paxil cr. but I can direct you to paxil's homepage if you'd like that... Good luck... "

Melanie replied: "My mom takes it for her depression and it seems to work. It also keeps her from having hot flashes from menopause as well. Which is a weird side effect, but works for her!"

oddbutterfly1 replied: "Have been on paxil for 8 years now, for anxiety and depression. It has saved my life. I had a few side effects with dry mouth and that was about it. It took a few months for the full effect to help. I also have been up and down with the dosage, depending on how long different moods lasted. But I also went to group sessions to learn how to handle the panic attacks, THAT really helped."

tori_1138 replied: "I took paxil from 1998-2004 for anxiety disorder w/panic attacks. I started low at 10mg for 2 weeks and then upped it to 20mg where I remained for 6 yrs. It was great at controlling my anxiety and panic attacks. But recently when I tried it again it didn't help at all. The drawbacks were some weight gain in the beginning but was able to lose that, also my sex drive dropped down to zero, zilch, zip, nada! Couldn't even have an orgasm on the rare occasion I did have sex. But if you don't care about that then try it. You know, lexapro is suppose to cause less sexual side effects and recently Wellbutrin has been approved for anxiety(not sure about panic but you could ask for something like ativan when you do have a panic attack) and it doesn't usually have sexual side effects. With anti-depressants it's hit and miss, you have to work closely with your doctor to find what works for you. Some people need an anti-depressant along with an anti-anxiety med to control panic. You need to do whatever it takes to get your life back to normal so don't be afraid to speak up with your doctor. Good luck and take care of yourself!"

Courtlyn_87 replied: "I was on Paxil as a teen, so my experience is slightly skewed. I took it for severe depression and anxiety and it actually intensified the fears I held. Sadly I cannot give the drug any praise, I was never suicidal (only depressed) until they put me on Paxil."

Sara C replied: "I personally found it useless. Although, body chemistry and drug resistance make it process differently with everyone. Some people claim Paxil saved their life, and some (like I) believe it did nothing. I have been on about 13 different anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, and anti-anxiety medications, and have found Paxil unhelpful, but you are sure to have a different experience, everyone reacts differently to medications."

Can Paxil Cr 12.5 mg and klonoppin 0.5 mg help sleep better. and make you happier? Im on those drugs now for 2 weeks heasent made a big difference yet .. how long does it take to make effect? will it change a persons life to better if you have anxiety? . thank you!

ChiLady replied: "Paxil can take 4-6 weeks to reach the right level in your bloodstream--so be patient! Klonopin is a medicine for anxiety that works within a half hour to start to relax you. .5 is a very small dose--if you take it before bed, it should help relax you so you can sleep. Talk with the doctor if things get worse, as he/she can change the doseage. but give it time to work. It will help you feel better and make your life better. Take care!"

Have anyone have been on paxil cr or is on it? I am on zoloft and i am feeling better. when i was on paxil cr, it was giving me electric shocking in my head and then it went to my body and my body was electric shocked. I felt horrible. I was only on 12.5 mgs. Now i am on 50mgs of zoloft. I am doing better. I had panic attacks still when i was on it. I have post traumatic stress disorder, adhd, panic disorder, depression. I also take wellbutrin, and ritalin. The ritalin is for my adhd. I am 21 years old.

Orinoco_W replied: "All of those antidepressants seem to vary from person to person. Some people do better on Zoloft, some on Paxil, some on Prozac ... side effects are common particularly early on but they tend to ease off after about a week or so. Some people really cannot tolerate an antidepressant so they need to be switched over to another one."

country girl replied: "I use to take 40 mg of paxil. It worked well on me. But it has different effects on different people. Good Luck with everything, hopefully the meds that you take now will work well for you."

mynx326 replied: "Okay, very important...I was put on Ritalin for my ADD at the age of 26 and the RITALIN TRIGGERED PANIC ATTACKS! Many adults cannot take ritalin for this same reason. I've been on Paxil and/or Paxil CR for about three years and it is WONDERFUL!!! LOL I would question why you are on Ritalin, Wellbutrin AND Zoloft, I've never heard of that. I was on Strattera for awhile, but had to stop taking my ADD medication, mainly because it got too expensive, but I didn't like the side effects. I don't take any meds for my ADD. It makes some things harder, but I feel my Depression/Anxiety is a bigger problem, so I don't mind. It is much easier to live with the ADD than to live with the side effects of the medication. Strattera has some pretty scary side effects, including liver failure, so I wouldn't personally reccomend it. PTSD and Depression can also mimic symptoms of ADD. I am by no means qualified to say "don't take your meds" because I personally, NEED mine, but if some of your symptoms can be relieved by discontinuing one of those pills, then you need to work with your doctor on this. Talk to your doctor, he/she may want to try you on Concerta, which is a control-release form of Ritalin. It may lower the incidence of panic attacks, if they are indeed being triggered by the Ritalin, and hey, if it gets you off another pill, it might be worth it. According to the Drug Digest, you should also be aware of this information: SERTRALINE HYDROCHLORIDE (in Zoloft) may interact with GRAPEFRUIT JUICE Sertraline is broken down in the body by the liver. Grapefruit may interfere with the liver’s ability to break down the sertraline, causing sertraline to remain in the body for a longer period of time. This could cause an increase in both the intended effect and the side effects of sertraline including nausea, dizziness, headaches, and sleep disturbances. Patients taking sertraline may want to avoid any type of grapefruit including its juice, the fruit itself, and any supplements that may contain grapefruit. You may drink other types of juices with sertraline. You may want to ask your healthcare provider about this potential interaction if you think you are having problems."

Can i switch from Paxil cr to lexapro without any problems? i've only taken 3 doses of 12.5mg of the paxil i hear lexapro is a safer / better drug for anxiety

versantly replied: "the only way to change meds is with the advice of a doctor as you will need a prescription. call and make an appointment."

thejoker0105 replied: "you should talk to your doctor and or pharmacist first"

la scorpion replied: "not necessarily, why don't you try to stick with the paxil, it takes up to a month to show affect. lexapro is a newer drug and therefor can have unobserved side effects . both are safe effective drugs, my option is stick with the paxil,"

mojomurphy replied: "Probably you haven't taken enough doses to have any problem quitting the paxil. However, You shouldn't switch meds without a doctor's help. For example, if a person has been taking MAO drugs, they have to be off them for 3 weeks before taking an SSRI or else they can get very sick. You should get the advice of somebody who went to med school so that you can be sure you're not going to accidentally mix meds that can't be in your body at the same time."

Stephen L replied: "The problem is that you may not be responsive to Lexapro. I would wait a full 2 months before switching because who knows, you may not be responsive Paxil, and may have to switch to Lex anyways, however the time to come online with the switch COULD totally throw your Neurotransmitters completely off, then youd be off, not realise it, and then we'de have to wait till you came in to report depresion, possibly from another Dr. who could misdiagnose you as Depressed when you really are bi-Polar, and then your really screwed up. Just wait to see if this works, then discuss it with your Dr."

Has anyone ever taken Paxil CR before? I'm currently on Zoloft and my doctor put me on Paxil CR to see if that would work better for me.

y_answrs_wally replied: "It's different for everyone. Your body will react to a drug differently than the next person. I tried it once and it did not help. There is a lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline, producers of Paxil, where many patients have died due to complications with the medication."

bludaisy33 replied: "My friend did and tried to kill herself. She went back to Zoloft. Some people can't handle Paxil."

AngelsSin2 replied: "different meds work better for different people it all has to do with your brain chemistry etc. I know a few people who have taken Paxil and had no problems. then I know one person who didn't do well on it and just changed to another med and did fine. if zoloft isn't working for you paxil is worth a try. if you feel paxil doesn't work then you can always try another until you find the med that's right for you. Good Luck !!!!"

ldygemini5 replied: "I just went to the doc yesterday for the same reason, to change meds. I started on Sarafem (fluxetine HCl), which worked great for the first 2 months. Then I tried Paxil CR, I couldn't see of feel any change for better or worse. After about 6 months on nothing, my doctor tried Zoloft. Again, no effect for me. He switched me yesterday to Effexor XR. He said it should take 2 weeks to a months to notice any changes. He also told me not to be discouraged for changing meds do often, different peoples body handles meds different. What workd for me, may not work for you. I'm also seeing a therapist too. So, maybe you should find someone to do "talk therapy" with. Don't give up!!! :-)"

I'm on Paxil Cr. I feel queasy. How long does this last? I have been on paxil cr for about 6 days and started having some quesy feelings. No vomiting. Will this feeling pass after a few days? I feel better, except for the queasiness. I tried Zoloft and had more severe nausea.

oceanlady580 replied: "take the paxil with food for about a week that will stop the nausea after that you can take it without food"

char g replied: "Don't get yourself all upset there is help for the nausea out there. I am Bipolar and have to take many pills each day. I take Compazine to stop the nausea and queasiness ask you doctor about it because it helps tremendously to get rid of the side effects. You could also ask your doctor for Cogentin and it will take away the side effects of the drugs too."

Saint Hell replied: "Always make your doctor aware of any problems you may be experiencing with side effects. Medications will often need adjustments; it's a annoyance to have to go through it, but it's EXTREMELY important... ...and, by the way... Chirpy little dumbasses who tell you that taking anti-depressives is somehow morally damning...are chirpy little dumbasses. Give 'em the finger. ESPECIALLY if the dumbass's name is "Tom"."

IS PAXIL CR GENERIC ALMOST THE SAME AS THE NAME BRAND? I would like to know if taking the generic version it can be as same effective as the name Brand one, if not is there un specific pharmacy that would have the better one? generic version? thanks.

Don't Blame me replied: "The generic brands are the exact same formulas as the name brands. By law pharmacies can change a name brand for the equivalent generic. Some people do report different side effects on the generic than on the original;however, I have never had this problem."

catniplles replied: "Yes."

Bill replied: "Yes, generic Paxil CR is the same drug. It works as branded GlaxoSmithKline Paxil and the chemicalls are exactly the same. I have been ordering regular Paxil (not Cr) for almost 2 years with PharmacyNextDoor.com , and never had problems with them. Those guys are great!!! I can get 2 motnhs supply for $62 dollars! Fantastic!!! I have checked and they do carry Generc Paxil Cr, for more information look at"
